Premier Hockey League (PHL)

Finally our national game hockey has its own premier league in India on the lines of football and basketball, its called Premier Hockey League (PHL). Was very glad when I heard it, because the money the hockey players get is very less compared to favorite sport in India like cricket. In this league top players will be getting around Rs. 1 lakh and remaining players less amount. The league has three different categories Tier I, Tier II and Tier III. There will be a total of Rs 7.1 million ($162,400) on offer as prize money, with the Tier I winner team taking away Rs 3 million ($68,600) and the rest will be among the Tier II and Tier III.

The PHL was launched very well it had a fashion show showing the uniforms the teams will be wearing, designed by well know designer. Well thanks to the sponsors and the sports TV channel ESPN-StarSports.

I particularly licked the names given to top 5 teams like, Hyderabad Sultans, Maratha Warriors, Chennai Veerans, Sherae Jalandhar and lastly our Bangalore team called Bangalore Highfliers.

It will also be the first time you will get to see India and Pakistan players playing together.
